Refugees often fear for their futures The life of a refugee is precarious at best. Refugees often leave their homelands in a fright, threatened by violence, with only a few possessions if any with them. They do not look back because it is likely that they will never return home. Their future is also uncertain. They land in nations that look at them with suspicion. They do not understand the local language or culture. Will they be able to stay and make a good life for themselves in this new place? Or will they be forced onto a plane back to a home that may prove to be their end? Read further...

The Conventual Franciscan Novitiate program is an opportunity for young men discerning entry into the Order of Friars Minor Conventual to live according to the Rule of St. Francis and follow the Order's Constitutions. While in the Novitiate, the young men develop their relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, study, and service. This year the novices at the Novitiate in Mishawaka, Indiana are living their Franciscan experience by serving the sick and vulnerable at the Our Lady of the Road Drop-In Center on 744 South Main Street in South Bend. Enter Kazakhstan
Three Conventual Franciscan friars, Robert Peretti, Pawel Block, and Alexei Skakovskii arrived in Astana, Kazakhstan, the country's capital city this Easter and founded there a Franciscan community. The Bishop of Astana, Tomasz Bernard Peta, had invited the friars to bring Franciscan spirituality to his city. The Conventual Franciscans will also run various Astana charities. Read further...
