Franciscan Action Network: Getting Things Done
The Franciscan Action Network is located in Washington, D.C.
When Francis of Assisi walked the Earth, he preached conversion, justice and equality right on the turf of those who needed to hear his message. He understood that to affect change, a direct approach becomes necessary. It is no surprise then that the Franciscan Action Network's offices are in Washington, D.C., less than 5 miles from the White House. Decisions that change the lives of countless millions not just in the United States but around the world are made in Washington. The Franciscan Action Network is strategically positioned here to give voice to the needs of the poor and disadvantaged during the decision processes of organizations such as the U.S. Government, the International Monetary Fund, and others.
Conventual Franciscan Friar Charlie McCarthy sits on the Action Commission
Members in the Franciscan Action Network (FAN) belong to various Franciscan orders and groups. Some members are friars, sisters, or lay people. The actual network is divided into two sections:
1. The Action Commission - a deliberative body in which the needs of all member organizations are brought to the forefront and formulated into clear specific goals.
2. The Action Center - a group of FAN members who devise strategies on how best to achieve FAN goals. They then implement these strategies and thus truly live up to their organization's name.
We encourage you our readers to send in stories where you see the spirit of St. Francis at work in the world. Email your stories to Peter Rajchert at peter@franciscans.org.
