FrancisCorps Helps a Young Woman

Live Like St. Francis

FrancisCorps Volunteer Kate Walsh

FrancisCorps is a Franciscan volunteer experience for young college graduates. Run by the Conventual Franciscan friars out of Syracuse, New York, the program has placements throughout various ministries in that city and in Costa Rica.

This year, New Jersey native, Kate Walsh is volunteering in the Franciscan Collaborative Ministries' food pantry in the North Side of Syracuse. Ms. Walsh is 22 years old and holds a degree in Management and Politics from Fairfield University. She has served as a Eucharistic minister and retreat leader at Fairfield and traveled widely throughout Europe and North Africa.

The Franciscan Collaborative Ministries'

Assumption Food Pantry in Syracuse, New York

Unsure at first of her decision to join FrancisCorps, Ms. Walsh wondered if she would be able to cope with her role in the running of the pantry. Her lifetime commitment to serve others, however, beat out any hesitations that might have lingered in her mind. Ms. Walsh ended up joining the pantry and became integral to its operation.

Kate Walsh is living proof that the spirit of St. Francis is alive and well. St. Francis much like Ms. Walsh knew that to live life and honor God was to serve others.

We encourage you our readers to send in stories where you see the spirit of
St. Francis shine. Email your stories to Peter Rajchert at
