Jamaica - Spring 2008: Twenty-one students from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and their campus minister Father Brad Heckathorne, OFM Conv., spent their spring break in Jamaica serving the poor and vulnerable. At the start of their stay, the students helped in the running of the St. Patrick’s Foundation in inner-city Kingston where the poorest of the poor come for nourishment and counseling. Around the mid-point of their visit, Father Brad and his group traveled to the Franciscan mission of St. Mary’s. Here four of the students who were nurses worked in the medical clinic while others assisted with food distribution and in education development. The group also managed to repaint the mission’s auditorium.

After their eight volunteer days were finished, Father Brad Heckathorne and the students from Catholic University of America returned to the United States, having made the world a better place to live.
