Softball Game and Last Holy Hour
May 16th, 2008Today, after school I participated in the Faculty/Staff versus National Honor Society (NHS) Softball Game. Needless to say, we dominated, well not really we did eek out a win with some superb fielding in the bottom of the 9th snatched victory from the jaws of defeat! I did pretty good 3 hits, flew out twice and I didn’t strike out! I bailed early from the NHS cookout. Since the friars hosted a cookout for the young men from FYM and their families before our last holy hour. We had about 40 kids RSVP and close to 60 show up Thanks be to God we had enough chicken, burgers and mac and cheese for everybody! I was glad the weather was nice that we could eat outside. We had plenty of time to visit, laugh and eat. It was the first time most of them were in the friary and they thought it looked like a “real house.” I joked that maybe this could be their “real house” someday! Who knows, I hope and pray.
After we finished the clean up, we made our way to the chapel for Praise and Worship Adoration. During the hour, I was moved by a couple things. First, the good work that had been done by so many people for these young men: their parents, teacher, friends and others. I thought what a blessing it has been to participate in this even if in a minute way was an amazing gift from our good God. Second, this began to signal for me that this year is rapidly coming to an end. Before I know it, exams will be grades, final marks will be submitted and I will have a wonderful year of memories and stories that will last a lifetime.
Wow, I wasn’t planning on getting nostalgic. I should sign off on this before I get all weepy
peace and prayers,
friar Matt
