Baccalaureate Mass
May 29th, 2008Last evening, the faculty and staff joined the senior class for the Baccalaureate Liturgy. The mass was held at the beautifully restored Basilica in Baltimore.
We were all in academic gard (or habits wit academic hoods) while the seniors donned their tuxes. They looked like a million bucks! Our president presided and preached. He compared the Baccalaureate mass to the last 15 seconds of a basketball game during the timeout. He developed it QUITE well. In the last minutes, you don’t learn new plays or strategies, instead you practice what you know. He tied that to the reading from John’s gospel where during the highly priestly prayer Jesus told his followers to “remain in him.” I loved it and I got as much out of it as the students!
I helped distribute communion to the faculty and choir. I considered it a blessing to serve and minister to people that I have grown to love this year. The evening concluded with a number of students being recognized for stellar academic and extra curricular participation. The liturgy and music was beautiful and I got excited because I was told that the graduation ceremony is done just as well!
peace and prayers,
friar Matt
