St. Raphael’s Church in Burlington, Ontario
Peace to all!
My name is Cristian Lecanda. I am the Youth Minister at St. Raphael’s Church in Burlington, Ontario.
For the last 6 years I have being working with young people at our church and schools. After a talk with Friar John Voytek, the new administrator at St. Raphael’s, about starting conversations on vocations to religious life, he suggested that I get in touch with Friar Russell Governale, the Conventual Franciscans’ vocation director for Canada. After a good chat on Skype, Friar Russell and I determined the following:
1- We would like to develop a permanent group of young men who meet in the evenings to talk about discernment and the Franciscan way of life.
2- Friar Russell agrees to make himself available and bring, when possible, another friar with him to these evening get-togethers.
3- The evenings will be simple and with a focus on St. Francis’ life, the Franciscan Order and vocations as a personal and special call from God.
4- Our first evening is set for the weekend of November 22-23, 2014. More details are to follow.
5- We are looking for men between 20 and 35 years of age to attend our evening discussions.
What do we need from you?
Look around and invite young men from your parish and ministry who may benefit from our upcoming conversations. With time and follow-up we will help them open up to God’s call in their lives.
Where and how can we promote this event?
Bulletin boards and weekend bulletins at your parish are a great way to promote our meeting on vocations. Approaching individuals personally who you think might be called to religious life is however the best way to spread the word about our event.
Here at St. Raphael’s Church we will also promote our meeting on vocations by, in part, sending out invitations to parishes in our deanery and other locations that are to be determined.
Thanks and God bless.
