Interfaith Symposium Underlines Need to Care for Creation

Rabbi Martin J. Berman, Naseem Mahdi, and Friar Rick Riccioli, OFM Conv. were the featured speakers at the Interfaith Symposium.

TORONTO, November 6, 2007 - The Franciscan Church of St. Bonaventure in the Toronto neighborhood of Don Mills hosted an Interfaith Symposium on "Religion and the Environment". The event - organized by The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in conjunction with The Canadian Centre for Diversity - brought to light the great respect Judaism, Islam, and Christianity have for creation. Each faith's speaker reminded the audience that God has placed the Earth in humanity's stewardship. It is therefore humanity's responsibility to take care of creation. Lately this has been a responsibility that we have not been fulfilling.

The symposium held a special significance for the followers of St. Francis of Assisi who might remember the saint's great respect and reverence for creation and his tolerant dialogue with Sultan Melek-el-Kamel.
