On July 1, we celebrate the feast of Blessed Junipero Serra - a famous Franciscan friar. Blessed Junipero was born on the island of Mallorca, but starting at age 35 he moved to Mexico to pursue missionary life. He is famous for having been a key player in the creation of missions in what is today the state of California.

Community Outreach
A group of parishioners at the Shrine of St. Anthony of Padua in Ellicott City, Maryland comes together every second Tuesday of the month to knit shawls for the needy. The persons receiving the shawls might be dealing with an illness or they may have lost a family member in armed conflict. With the shawls in their hands, they know that they are not alone.
