Minister General Elected
Friar Marco Tasca OFM Conv. to serve six years

Assisi, May 26 - Friar Marco Tasca has been elected as minister general of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual at the Order's 199th General Chapter in the Sacro Convento. He is the 119th successor of St. Francis.

The election procedure as stipulated by the Order's constitution allows every chapter delegate to vote for any friar who is at least 35 years of age and has been in solemn profession for a minimum of 10 years. The voting can last up to five ballots depending on the number of candidates.

The minister general of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual is a servant of his brothers. He serves in  this position for a period of six years.

Friar Marco Tesca was born in Sant'Angelo di Piove near Padua and previously served as the minister provincial of the Italian province of St. Anthony of Padua. He entered novitiate in 1976 and made his temporary vows a year later. In 1981, Friar Marco made his solemn profession and was then ordained as a priest in 1983.

With a baccalaureate in theology, a licentiate in psychology, and a degree in pastoral theology, Friar Marco was rector of the minor seminary in Brescia and director of the post-novitiate program in Padua. Friar Marco has also been a professor of psychology and catechetics at the Sant'Antonio Dottore Theological Institute. Friar Marco's other positions have been capitular custodian  and guardian of the Camposampiero friary.
