ST. CLARE INN
Toronto, ON

The St. Clare Inn is a transitional home for homeless women with mental health issues. In a nurturing environment with certified support staff, the inhabitants of The St. Clare Inn work towards establishing for themselves a structured and secure life.

The St. Clare Inn was founded by the Friends of St. Francis, a group of lay men and women and Franciscan friars. The impetus behind the Inn was the death of a homeless woman named "Julie" in a wealthy Toronto neighborhood on a blistering cold January night several years ago.

THE FRANCISCAN CENTER
Buffalo, NY

The Franciscan Center opened its doors on April 1, 1980 to address the needs of runaway and homeless young men in Western New York. The center serves the needs of young men generally between the ages of 16-20.

There is a short term (up to 30 days) Emergency Shelter which seeks to provide immediate assistance of food, shelter, and counseling. During this period the person's situation is assessed and strategies are formulated to assist the young man in addressing his difficulties and, when possible, return to his family.

There is also a Transitional Shelter which is more of a long-term program of up to one year. This program helps a young man develop the skills to address his issues and work at becoming more independent through counseling,   education or job training, and setting long-term goals for his life.
