What We Do - Our Ministries
Saint Francis ministered to lepers and beggars, princes and sultans, and even one day preached to the birds. He was so full of love of our Lord, he wanted everyone to know the healing and hope of the Gospel. During his lifetime, thousands joined his Franciscan movement and preached throughout the known world. We continue that tradition today.
Our Franciscan priests and brothers, also called Friars, do a variety of ministries in service to the Church and God's people. We are pastors and preachers; we are teachers at all levels of education from grade school through graduate school; we are youth and campus ministers; we are health care professionals and canon lawyers; we are licensed counselors and chaplains at hospitals, nursing homes, and prisons; we care for basilicas and shrines, soup kitchens and retreat centers; and we are missionaries throughout the world caring for the poor, the sick, the dying.
Conventual Franciscans are not tied to one ministry all their life long, but have the opportunity to experience a variety of ministries all at the service of the Gospel and ever changing needs of the Church. All of our ministries are grounded in our experience of community and living together as brothers.
